STUDENTS: ASK YOUR TEACHER ABOUT SERVICE-LEARNING
Download Document

WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Ask your teacher about service-learning opportunities in your school. If there are no service-learning activities taking place in your school, ask your teacher to initiate one.

HERE’S HOW YOU DO IT:

Step 1. Be prepared to explain service-learning, including examples of effective service-learning projects. Refer to the Learn & Serve Challenge Basic Talking Points for tips and suggested language.

Step 2. Highlight the positive outcomes of service-learning, such as improved grades, increased attendance in school, and the development of personal and social responsibility.

Step 3. Share the “Bring Learning to Life” materials with your teachers and administrators.

Step 4. Encourage your teacher to visit the National Service-Learning Clearinghouse for service-learning curricula ideas.

Step 5. Tell your teacher about Learn and Serve America. Find out about Learn and Serve America programs in your state.
