MAKE A SERVICE-LEARNING YOUTUBE VIDEO
Download Document

WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Tape a two-five minute video that captures the purpose of your service-learning experience. Submit your video on CD to the address listed below. Selected videos will be posted on our Service-Learning Channel at YouTube.

National Service-Learning Partnership
at the Academy for Educational Development
1825 Connecticut Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20009
ATTN: Learn & Serve Challenge Video

Submissions will not be returned. CK: NEED TO ADD STUFF ABOUT PERMISSIONS HERE.
Materials Needed:
  • Video camera
  • Computer with Internet Access
HERE’S HOW YOU DO IT:

Step 1: View existing YouTube videos for inspiration at the Service-Learning Channel: www.YouTube.com/servicelearning.

Step 2: Coordinate with program participants to decide the vision you have for your video.

Include:
  • Footage of the project in progress
  • Commentary telling your project’s story (e.g. who funds it, who founded it, how old it is, how often it meets, etc.)
  • Statistics (e.g. number of volunteers, people impacted, hours spent on the project, etc.)
  • A clear beginning that introduces the organization and work and a clear ending that includes information about future work and opportunities for other to get involved.
Step 3: Lights, camera, action! Film your video.
Make sure it is no longer than five minutes. Step 4: Submit completed video on a CD to the address listed above for review and posting.

EXTRA TIPS
  • Try not to stage activity in the video. Viewers appreciate glimpses of what really happens in service-learning. The more they feel like they are actually there with your project’s participants, the more likely they will be to sign on as a future participant!
  • Be creative!
